Britt and I mentioned months ago how cool it would be to have a neighborhood block party. Someone must have overheard us, because one day a poster was up for “la fete des voisins” on a Tuesday night. We really were looking forward to it, but unfortunately, it rained all day! Around 6:40 (there was a 7 PM start time), the rain cleared. People started poking their heads out their windows to see if the party was still a go…and it was!
Britt made a chicken pot pie and some no-bake cookies and we joined the party. We met a lot of nice folks, including a really outgoing Italian lady with a cute little daughter, and our neighbor’s 30-something daughter who thought that Mormons were Amish. We’re the only ones renting in our building (minus those on the 7th floor in the servants quarters) while the rest have all been there between 10 and 40 years. Some are former or current diplomats (including the owner of our place), there’s also a lawyer, computer guy, elderly lady, and several others we haven’t met. We don’t exactly fit in with our building residents, but we both LOVE our neighborhood (the location).

These are some of the folks from our building. The older lady learned English translating documents for the Allies in WWII. She drops in on us now and again...
