Since Britt now has a lot more time on her hands, she often brings me lunch at school (which is AWESOME! My wife makes a mean tunafish sandwich). One day we were sitting there and got recruited by some guys to be on a TV show called Ce Soir ou Jamais on France 3. I readily agreed and was excited for the experience, while Britt was less than stoked for the evening. I talked my friend Nina into going with us and we all met at the studio for the show.
French TV is incredibly boring in the way it is set up, and this show was no exception. While the host interviewed his guest, the rest of us were supposed to create a ‘cocktail’ atmosphere, dressed ‘chic’-ly and drinking our champagne or coke. We got put in the darkest corner of the place and spent most of the show whispering (Nina translated a lot for us). I think the whispering and Britt’s general look of pure boredom kept us from being included in any background shots! The interview was with an old actress named Jeanne Moreau, age 82, who was apparently at one point a sex-symbol, but who is now a wrinkly emphysemic. The host asked her if she regretted spending her career glorifying adultery and infidelity and of course she said no. They showed several clips from her 50s/60s movies where she was half-naked and she actually was a pretty lady back in the day.
We watched the show later that night and definitely didn’t make it into any shots! Our 30 seconds of fame will have to wait. I still had a fun time checking out the studio, though.
